A single minute of high-resolution video can take tens or hundreds of megabytes. A few dozen clips fill a phone quickly.

Find the big files

  1. Open Settings → Storage, or the Files app and choose Videos sorted by size.
  2. Review the largest first. Delete failed recordings and duplicates.

Back up before deleting

  • Upload important videos to a cloud service or copy them to a computer.
  • Check that the copy plays before you delete the original.

Reduce future use

  • Record at 1080p instead of 4K when you do not need the extra detail.
  • In chat apps, turn off auto-download of media or limit it to Wi-Fi.
  • Delete downloaded videos after you have watched them. If you use an official offline feature, many services let you set an expiry or quality level.
  • If your phone has a microSD slot, set it as the camera save location.

Clear caches

In Settings → Apps, open large apps and tap Clear cache (not Clear data). This does not remove your files or accounts.

Will cloud backup free space on the phone?

Only if you delete the local copy after the backup completes. Confirm the upload finished first.
