A tone you chose yourself is easier to hear and feels less jarring than the default.

Steps

  1. Put the audio file (MP3, M4A or OGG) in a stable folder on your phone, such as Music or Ringtones.
  2. Open your alarm app and tap the alarm you want to change.
  3. Tap Sound or Ringtone, then Add or From files, and select the file.
  4. Save the alarm and test it.

Pick a good clip

  • Start with a clear beat or melody within the first second.
  • Trim long songs to 30 to 60 seconds so the loudest part plays first.
  • Avoid music you love: you may start to dislike it.

Keep it reliable

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a streaming song as an alarm?

Only if the alarm app supports it. Offline audio files stored on the phone are the most reliable choice.

Why did my custom tone stop working?

If you delete or move the file, the alarm falls back to a default tone. Keep it in a stable folder.

Is a loud song a good alarm?

Choose something clear and not too gentle. A quiet intro can make you sleep through it.
